Life is a series of calculated risks. Everything that your kids decide to do has a margin of risk. No outcome is ever 100 percent certain and, therefore, any attempt at anything has a chance of complete failure. The biggest risk is not taking one!
“The most effective way to keep children safe is to give them a little taste of danger.” ~ Gever Tulley
“Risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.” ~ Leo F. Buscaglia
“Those things that hurt, instruct.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“The process of discovery (or innovation, or technological progress) itself depends on antifragile tinkering, aggressive risk bearing rather than formal education.” ~ Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Antifragile
“…the more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves. If you never let them take any risks, then I believe they become very prone to injury. Boys should be allowed to climb tall trees and walk along the tops of high walls and dive into the sea from high rocks… The same with girls. I like the type of child who takes risks. Better by far than the one who never does so.” ~ Roald Dahl, [My Year]
